It's just a highly abstracted, domain-specific, declarative one, with a lot of imported functionality.

Imagine that someone created a Python module, html5, that included classes and method that printed text to the screen, hooked in click handlers to load URLs, etc. Then, using it would allow very simple programs to be made, of the form:

import html5
if __name__ == "__main__":
....h1("This is a heading");
....p("And now for a paragraph, which includes a " + a("link", "http://www.qrandom.url") + "in the middle.");

It might not do a lot, but that is definitely a program (just ask "Hello, World!"), and if that is, then so is the obvious HTML translation.

And if that's also a program, then the language it's written in is, de facto, a programming language. Maybe not a very general one, maybe a limited one, but a programming language all the same. Arguments that it's a markup language miss the point. Markup languages are a subset of programming languages. They belong to the declarative paradigm and are generally domain-specific, but nonetheless go to show that programming languages aren't the exclusive homogeneous club some people seem to think they are.

Knowing HTML doesn't make you a programmer, but then learning a bit of whatever 'approved' language and then calling yourself one doesn't make you a programmer either. It's learning to analyse and abstract that's the key. And analysis and abstraction seem sorely lacking among the more vocal members of the it's-not-a-programming-language camp. I wouldn't call myself a builder because I can stack pieces of Lego, but to say that those pieces aren't bricks because real builders don't use them is nonsense. So let's all stop belittling HTML as if doing so somehow raises 'real programmers' up.

And I'll leave you with some Perl: s/per say/per se/;

Re: The Top 10 Google Chrome Extensions

Absolutely, HTTPS and Flash Block are great. I'll be picking up a couple of these. But you are missing some good ones too. Flash block helps reduce webpages overhead by blocking any flash. HTTPS Everywhere helps keep encrypted connections when possible. Those are two I find to be very useful.

Re: How (Not) to Repair a Water-Damaged iPhone

im so glad i found this
considering apple is a jerk and does not cover water damage under warranty, i may as well tamper to my hearts desire.

Re: Understanding Innovative Technologies in User Tracking

Anonymity on web is now a lost cause, what with everyone becoming tech saavy. Just about every professional librarian that I've ever met, librarianship was their 2nd or 3rd career. All students in my cohort, were over 30, except for one. She was the baby, and it actually was her first career choice. I actually had 8 years of paraprofessional experience before getting the MLS. I've specialized in Technical Services as that aspect suits me better. I would never suggest anyone get an MLS without prior experience working in some type of library.

Re: Is a Master’s Degree in Library Science a Poor Investment? My third thought regarding the woman who told me that she couldn't find a job was this: if you knew you didn't want to leave East Texas, why did you waste the time getting a Library Science Degree? Job opportunities in Podunk for librarians was slim 20 years ago, 10 years ago, and will be 10 years from now. It isn't a degree that is going to provide a high salary in rural areas. However, rural areas are a great place to get that two years of professional experience required by the better paying positions. Who knows, you just might fall in love with the rural life and want to stay. I already miss the traffic, or lack thereof.

Re: Grooveshark’s Mobile Site and the Rise of HTML5

http://genelyazilar.wordpre...

Re: How (Not) to Repair a Water-Damaged iPhone

When I dropped my iPhone in the lake, the biggest mistake I made was trying to power it on when it wouldn't come on. A Counter Perspective to Forbes Magazine

I have battled against the negative attitude toward anyone who works in a library without an MLS degree. I am in the process of finishing a dual degree in Special ed/K-8 ed. and I have an associate's in Library Technology (ALA accredited because I complained loudly that they were negating my degree by saying that anything less than an MLS or four year degree was worthless). I can't get a job in a library, a job in which I excell at and love even though I have worked in a public library as assistant director for five years and as a MS/HS library media specialists (without any degree except HS). I started looking into degrees and was immediately 'non-renewed' from my school position of ten years. Even though there were library jobs open in my area, when I applied, I was told I wasn't qualified even though someone with no library experience and only a HS degree or less was hired for the position, several times over because, let's face it, library work is tedious and monotonous for those who don't understand it.

The point I am making is, damned if you do, damned if you don't. And, I admire anyone who is willing to move to another state to get the library job that they want. It is an occupation that requires this in order to make any money whatsoever. I also agree that MLS snobbery is closing down libraries all over this country. An MLS degree is over-rated and in saying this, anyone who has one can probably find a better job as a professional in another field that requires exact record keeping, research, and archiving. More librarians are working outside their initial field and doing pretty well. Right now, at the school that non-renewed me has combined the library to serve k-12 grades (and who inspired me to get an AA as LTN and BS in Ed.) kept on as an employee someone (HS degree only) who can barely put together two coherently written sentences and cannot seem to put library books back on the shelves. The library is a nightmare and only serves K-5 and most of the MS/HS collection has mouldered away in 59 boxes, sitting in the aisles and on shelves, becoming more outdated by the day. So, What's the moral here? I certainly don't know, but it is a fact all over this country.

Re: ASIS&T 2012: Making Memorable Connections

saat & saat,
saat and saat,
saat ve saat, saat en saat, saat in saat, saatin saat, saat saatin, saatler,
kol saati, erkek kol saati, bayan kol saati, swatch saat saat modelleri ve saat fiyatları
